The Indiana University Natatorium - Indianapolis is honored to host the east site of USA Swimming's 2025 Speedo Winter Junior Championships. These championships are coming to Indianapolis and the IU Natatorium for the first time in recent history. The Local Organizing Committee is currently recruiting talented and energetic volunteers to serve as valued members of our volunteer Team Indy.

Indiana Wish: Christmas in the Kitchen, Thurs Dec 11th, Hyatt Regency Indianapolis

Event Volunteers Needed. Christmas in the Kitchen is a one-of-a-kind culinary experience benefiting Indiana Wish. Guests are invited to step behind the scenes and into the kitchen of the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis to enjoy extravagant samplings of festive food and drink.

Happy Thanksgiving Ambassadors,

As I prepare to step away after four years of being your President, I think now is the perfect time to give thanks. I was drawn to this organization because of its legacy and mission. I love Indianapolis and I love the hospitality of Hoosiers. Engaging with people and making a difference in this world is something my parents instilled in me. I’ve been volunteering for over 40 years.

When I assumed the role as President, I had three main goals. 1. I wanted to take the members to places they’ve never seen before and educate them (which is also our mission) about places they’ve been intrigued about but never had the opportunity to visit. 2. I also wanted to create volunteer opportunities for the members that are new and exciting. 3. In addition, I wanted to develop a kind, caring, closer connection with the members. It’s important to show appreciation and gratefulness to the members who are giving of their free time to help our city, volunteer coordinators, venues, and events. I proudly say I believe I’ve accomplished my goals. I’ve met and been inspired by so many wonderful volunteers who have helping hearts. I’ve met hard working volunteer coordinators who have become mentors. I’ve taken us to places I never thought we could go. From standing on stage and conducting at Circle Theater, to getting in all the chambers of the Statehouse to gazing through the telescope at Butler Holcomb Observatory and dancing with my husband at the Marine 250th Military Ball.

I love the diversity of Indianapolis Ambassadors. People who are fulfilling the mission of our organization which is volunteering. That’s why I love our new Christmas tree at the Global Village because it represents our cultures. The social events have created so many fun memories. Some of my favorites are the Halloween Party/Chili Cookoff and hanging at Rick’s Boatyard.

Thank you for trusting me and supporting me. What we’ve been able to accomplish together is so inspiring. Keep making a difference with your selfless volunteering. I’m THANKFUL for this opportunity. I’m GRATEFUL for the experiences and friendships. I’m BLESSED to volunteer beside you Indianapolis Ambassadors!

I also want to thank my husband Christopher who served as your Vice President and inspired us with his diligence, enthusiasm and laughter.

November Social: Turkey Fest! Sat. Nov 15th 11:00am-2:00pm at Sullivan's Hardware and Garden

Tomorrow is one of the most popular social events of the year, Turkey Fest! Sullivan's Hardware at E. 71st Street and N Keystone Ave, hosts the kick- off celebration for the Salvation Army's season of giving. For 15 years Ambassadors have attended this no cost event which features fellowship, food and music. Held the Saturday before Thanksgiving, this popular event has every type of turkey you can imagine; turkey cooked over a fire, in a trash can, on a grill, roasted, or in a casserole. It is a wonderful treat. Please join us from 11 to 2pm. It's going to be a beautiful day and I am looking forward to spending it with you!

Hamilton County Public Safety Active Assailant Training, Nov 18-21, Confidential Location

Role players and crisis actors needed. Hamilton County Public Safety is conducting its countywide Active Assailant Full-Scale Training Exercise, and we need you to make it a realistic and valuable training for public safety. This immersive event involves participants in realistic, high-stakes scenarios that sharpen emergency response and strengthen community resilience.

We’re calling on 150–200 role players and crisis actors per session, with three sessions daily. Whether you’ve volunteered before or this is your first time, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to the safety of your community in a powerful way.

On a beautiful fall Wednesday evening, the Indianapolis Ambassadors gathered on the campus of Butler University. They rolled out the red carpet for us! We filled every seat in historic Robertson Hall with past IA presidents, seasoned and new members, Butler faculty and students. It was a wonderful night of experiences about volunteerism.

I wanted to share my passion and respect for my alma mater Butler University with the Indianapolis Ambassadors. It’s where I first began volunteering during my college years. Their program has evolved since then and is now part of their core curriculum. Our host for the evening Hanako Gavia and her students shared about their successful program. Lessons of giving back and making a difference matter. We learned a lot were even treated to delicious warm cookies!

As the leaves blew across campus, we journeyed to Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium. It’s one of the largest in the world. We were treated to a movie in the immersive dome. Upstairs we gazed through the giant telescope at the glowing moon. It was a special night. I’m so glad everyone had a great time at my beloved Butler University! Go DAWGS 💙

Our Halloween Party and Chili Cookoff was a resounding hit! I wanted to create something different for us to do to celebrate the season. Many who attended said it was the best event this year. It was a festive night with old and new friends and the time to visit. Everyone who attended dressed for the occasion to some degree. I was blown away with the creativity of the costumes. When we arrived, our supreme hostess Phyllis greeted us in the most amazing handmade beautiful witch 🧙 costume! We decked out her clubhouse with ghosts, rats, bats and witches.

The chili cookoff was competitive. We sampled the different types with tiny cups and wooden spoons. A highlight of the night was something I knew about but was still scared 😱. Diane Walton, who had been at the party, went to her car and changed into a creepy costume. She came in the door, strolled around, remained silent, everyone stared and then she left. It was priceless, we were speechless and then we laughed hysterically. Thanks Diane for the timely entertainment.

I would like to thank those who attended and brought food. Lots of culinary delights. A very special thank you to Diane and Christopher for helping me with all the details. As always a very special thank you to Phyllis for being the ultimate hostess with the mostest ❤️.

Fall Changes

Fall is a wonderful time of the year. Crisp air replaces warm days, hot chocolate and cider are drinks of choice, and the trees! The beauty of nature is evident as the lush green of summer change to vivid hues of yellow, orange and red, seeming to create a golden light.

It is also a time for change in volunteering. This past summer we had fun at the Broad Ripple Art Fair, Penrod and Talbot Street. We joined forces for group volunteering at the Corporate Challenge, the Momentum Bike Race and Earth Day. We served at festivals, and volunteered at outside music events, walks, races, Zoobilation, Zoo Boo, and Indian Market.

As the seasons change, so does volunteering - we just move inside. Many diverse opportunities can be found. We can look forward to galas, the IRT, Christmas at the Symphony, the Natatorium, and visiting our Christmas Tree at the Global Village.

The weather may change, but our ability to make a difference, to support our community, and to create more memories as we share the experience remains the same. Looking forward to spending time with you!

All are invited monthly General Meeting of the Indianapolis Ambassadors.  

We’ll be meeting in Robertson Hall where we'll be introduced to Butler's community engagement programs.

As a special treat, we’ll be spending an hour at the Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium. We’ll be given a tour, shown a short movie, and, if the weather cooperates, we’ll gaze into the depths of space through their mighty telescopes.

Ticket takers and Ushers Needed. Enjoy volunteering at some thrilling college basketball games through partnership with Indy Runners and Walkers.  Volunteers do not need to be Indy Runners members, however, priority is given to members and those able to help with multiple games.

IU Indianapolis: Spirit & Place Festival, Nov. 6th thru 16th, Marion, Johnson, Hamilton, Boone, and Putnam Counties

Festival Support Volunteers Needed. Annually, the festival brings together 100+ cultural organizations, congregations, artists, and other community partners to create 30+ events (exhibits, performances, panel discussions, workshops, and more) that inspire sustained conversation and reflection on a common theme.

Holiday Hoopla Swimming Invitational, Nov 7th thru 9th, IU Natatorium

Volunteers Needed for Admissions, Deck Control, Timers, Runners, Hospitality and More. The 2025 IU Natatorium Holiday Hoopla Invitational, a pre-holiday celebration of fast swimming and fun, will be held at the iconic IU Natatorium from Friday through Sunday, November 7-9. The 2025 IU Natatorium Holiday Hoopla Invitational is a 2.5-day, timed finals, short course competition featuring approximately 600 swimmers of all ages from across the Midwest. Theme days will celebrate the season; the event philanthropy is the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaign.

You are cordially invited to Indianapolis Ambassadors Halloween Spooktacular 🎃 Costume Party & Chili Cookoff. It will be a relaxed evening where we can be creative with our costumes and enjoy some yummy chili 🌶️ in a festive atmosphere with friends.

I personally still enjoy dressing up for Halloween and it started at a young age. My parents hosted Halloween parties for my friends and they dressed up too. My Mother created handmade amazing costumes for me like Ms. PacMan, Girl (Boy) George complete with an amazing wig, Wilma Flintstone, and so on. One year I told my Dad I wanted to be a tea party table…so he got a box, covered it with a red & white table cloth and attached my cups and saucers with a bouquet on top. The box covered all of me except my legs! Now that’s thinking outside the box 🤣.

We will be voting anonymously for the winner. Sample taste testing cups and all toppings and other side items for the chili will be provided. If you would like to enter your chili, please email me at president@indyambassadors.org and I can give you more details.

We are asking that those attending, who are not making chili to please bring a side item like a salad or a dessert. Punch, cider, water and soft drinks will be provided.

Prizes will be given for the best costume and chili. How creative can you be? Don’t miss this fun event, we have a beautiful venue with the most amazing hostess Phyllis. I can’t wait to make more memories together celebrating the season….it will be a frightfully good time 👻. Trick & Treat 🎃.

'Marie & Rosetta: the roots of rock ‘n’ roll ', Oct 18 thru Nov 23, Indiana Repertory Theatre

Bands of America: Super Regional, Oct 24th and 25th, Lucas Oil Stadium

Warm-up, Band Flow, and Photo Helpers Needed. The Bands of America Super Regional Championship is a high-level marching band competition featuring over 60 high school bands from Indiana and surrounding states in a two-day event. It includes preliminary competitions on Friday followed by a finals competition on Saturday evening for the top 14 bands selected from preliminaries. The event showcases outstanding music, choreography, and visual performances, judged by nationally recognized experts.

Interview: Constance Macy of the Phoneix Theatre Cultural Center

Earlier this month, the Indianapolis Ambassadors held their monthly general meeting at the Phonenix Theatre Cultural Center. In addition to developing and presenting their own plays every year, the facility hosts several other high-quality theatre companies.

Indianapolis Ambassadors is a group of civic-minded individuals who share the goals of helping the community through volunteerism and meeting new people with similar interests. We assist non-profit and civic agencies that need short-term volunteer help. This enables our members to sample a wide variety of volunteer work with no long-term commitment to any one organization.

Diwali Celebration Sat. Oct 18th 12-4pm at the Global Village Welcome Center

The Global Village Welcome Center needs volunteers like you to make this event a success. Celebrate the Hindu new year with us as we light diyas and decorate the Global Village with beautiful Rangoli. Enjoy a program featuring crafts, vendors, food, cultural activities, and delicious Indian food.

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help out as we celebrate with the community. Whether you can help with greeting guests, assisting with crafts, or just being an extra set of hands—we’d love to have you!

Day of the Dead Community Celebration Sat Oct 25th 9:30am-7:30pm at the Eiteljorg Museum

This free community celebration features performances, vendors, artists, art-making activities, a Catrina parade, food and so much more! Volunteers are needed to help throughout the day with wayfinding, greeting, evaluation, museum store sales, and art activities. This event draws over 5000 people annually and we could not do it without your help.

All are invited to the IA Halloween Party and Chili Cook-off! Are you ready for a frightfully good time? You're in luck! The Indianapolis Ambassadors will be descending upon Phylis' community clubhouse for a one of a kind Halloween Bash! Get a jump on the holiday by joining us in costume for a fun-filled pitch-in the weekend before Halloween!

Holiday Hoopla Swimming Invitational Nov 7th thru 9th at the IU Natatorium

Volunteers Needed for Admissions, Deck Control, Timers, Runners, Hospitality and More. The 2025 IU Natatorium Holiday Hoopla Invitational, a pre-holiday celebration of fast swimming and fun, will be held at the iconic IU Natatorium from Friday through Sunday, November 7-9. The 2025 IU Natatorium Holiday Hoopla Invitational is a 2.5-day, timed finals, short course competition featuring approximately 600 swimmers of all ages from across the Midwest. Theme days will celebrate the season; the event philanthropy is the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaign.

IA Group Volunteering! Proof: A Midwest Lit Fest - Oct 11th Downtown

Proof: A Midwest Lit Fest is an annual, free two-day literary festival taking place on Friday, Oct. 10 and Saturday, Oct 11 organized by Indiana Humanities in Indianapolis to celebrate and promote writing from the Midwest. The event features a book fair, author and poet readings, writing workshops, panel discussions on the literary landscape, and activities for all ages, aiming to demonstrate the thriving literary scene in the region. The main location is Harrison Center for the Arts. Other venues are, Indiana Humanities and The Indianapolis Propylaeum.

They need approximately 80 volunteers, spread between the two days (and a few pre-festival tasks that week). Positions available are registration, wayfinding, story-time assistance, author assistance, writing workshop assistance, set-up, teardown, room monitoring, parking assistance, floaters. Pre-festival tasks include program sorting, T-shirt sizing and name tag assembly.

Volunteer benefits: T-shirt and volunteer lounge access. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Free tickets for colleagues, family and friends.

Decades: 175 Years of American Music - Fri, Oct 10, 7-9pm at McGowan Hall

Playbill Distributors Needed. Decades is a cabaret musical that covers 175 years of American music from 1850 to 2025. It is a two-act musical, and we are looking for adult volunteers to help hand out programs.

Picnic in Carmel and General Meeting Downtown

As I sit in one of my favorite Indy's steakhouses, I am singing music like "Those Were the Days". As I sing, I count my life's many blessings through my many years. One of my favorite times is to sit on a lazy day, reminiscing amongst the spread of luscious green grass, full grown trees and birds chirping all about.

This Saturday, the Indianapolis Ambassadors has reserved picnic tables on the public grounds of a forty-acre old Purdue Research Farm, purchased in the nineteen eighty's by Northview Church. One of its goal in purchasing such a sizeable piece of land was to help others come, play and relax amongst God's beautiful creation. Tennis and basketball courts are present. It also has one of the best courts to play disc golf. All is to be at our disposal on Saturday. We are being visited and taught by Mason Kelly and Mark Kelly, plus, any other recruits to help train us to play disc golf. Mason will be our main teacher and has excelled highly in his level of competition. For those who want free lessons, the time will start at one o'clock, but our luncheon is going to start at 12 pm. We desire for everyone to come at 12 pm for the pitch-in luncheon, with your contribution of a meat, vegetarian salad, and/or a dessert of your choice to bring. Drinks and tableware will be provided. (Please refrain from any alcohol or smoking consumption).

The weather is going to be beautiful for our 12-4 pm social. Stay as long as you like! Learn some disc golfing skills, play some yard games, or just lay back and relax!

(Please park on the north side of the building, marked the Barn. Go to the south side of the barn to find the picnic tables. The address is 12900 Hazeldell Parkway, Carmel, Indiana. Drive up the hill looking for the first building on your left which is the Barn--the original milking barn remodeled now with classrooms.)

The Indianapolis Ambassadors love to not only volunteer but relax, dine, and have fun together. We invite you to check out this group that thrives on learning about you, and also about your wonderful gifts that can be given to volunteer work.

For this Saturday just sit back in your chair, and sing in your heart Louie Armstrong's song that says, "I see trees of green, Red roses too, I see them bloom for me and you, And I think to myself, What a wonderful world."

You'll, too, start believing that it is a wonderful world when we're all together, enjoying that beautiful day. So please come to enjoy the food, the yard games, disc golf lessons, and each other!

Phoenix Theatre in Indianapolis will be the location of our next monthly meeting next Wednesday. We're going to be gathering there to learn about volunteer opportunities. Everything's posted on the Indianapolis Ambassador website for times and addresses. After the general meeting, we will be going to St. Joseph's Brewery, downtown, which is a favorite place of ours to have a meal, a drink, or just conversation.

We always have a great group of people to be friends with and join in on Indy's volunteering needs.

IA Group Volunteering! Proof: A Midwest Lit Fest - Oct 11th Downtown

Indiana Humanities' Lit Fest is a free literary festival that celebrates the power of writing in the Midwest. It is hosted by Indiana Humanities and features a variety of activities such as book fairs, author readings, workshops, and more. The festival aims to connect writers and readers, encourage new writing, and promote the literary community in Indiana.

Over the course of the festival, 80 volunteers are needed; the Indianapolis Ambassadors are hosting a Meetup group of volunteers on Saturday.

It’s that time of year again – the 98th National FFA Convention & Expo is returning to Indy this year from Oct. 29 – Nov. 1. The National FFA is an intra-curricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership, designed to promote personal growth and career success throughout the many career fields within the agricultural industry. Members are future farmers, chemists, veterinarians, government officials, entrepreneurs, bankers, international business leaders, teachers, and premier professionals in several career fields.

The National FFA Convention & Expo is an annual event all about growing the next generation of leaders. Members who attend can participate in competitions and awards shows for their skills, attend tours in the Indianapolis areas designed for agricultural students, network with some of the largest industry professionals in the nation, and so much more. Last year alone, the 97thNational FFA Convention & Expo hosted just over 71,000 attendees including students, advisors, faculty, and industry professionals, with housing blocks in 102 hotels across the city and over 400 unique events throughout the week.

The city of Indianapolis is one of the best places in the nation to hold an event of this magnitude – we have the infrastructure, we have the connections, and most importantly we have the community behind us. This event is only made possible by our large volunteer team that assists us throughout the week. We still have plenty of shifts available for this year’s convention, providing service opportunities to the community of Indianapolis by assisting the members of the National FFA. A few examples of the shifts available are:

• Information Desks – Share information about the city of Indianapolis, our event venues, and our events throughout the week. These are great positions for folks who are very familiar with the downtown Indianapolis area, as many of our attendees travel to Indy from across the country for this event.
• Shop FFA Mega Store – Help our Merchandise team set up, manage, or tear down our 30,000 square foot retail space that hosts over 100,000 items. See how large groups of volunteers are managed, and watch an Expo Hall be built from the ground up.
• National Days of Service – Travel to a local site with our students to complete a community service project, and interface with student groups during convention registration.
• Career Success Tours – Assist with check in for various tours at the convention center, OR ride along and experience the tours alongside our students. Available ride-along shifts include:

  • White River Paintball
  • Dandy Breeze Dairy
  • IMPD Mounted Patrol
  • And much more!

Rocky Ripple Festival - Day, Sep 27th, 10:30am-6pm on the Near North Side

Event Volunteers Needed. Our big annual event is Saturday, September 27th from 11am-6pm. We have three hour volunteer shifts across several areas of our fun, free, funky, family friendly music and art festival. Opportunities include bicycle valet, directing traffic, children's art, clean team and others.

Social: Disc Frisbee and Picnic - Sat Sep 27th 12pm-4pm in Carmel

Yard games available for those not interested in Disc lessons from one of Indiana's top performers in this easy to learn physical activity. Disc lessons and practice is from 1:00 pm- 3:30 pm. (Bring your disc frisbee if you have one. Others will be provided.)

One the coolest things about Indianapolis Ambassadors General Meetings each month is we take you to a different location around Indianapolis. This month we literally took you around the world at the Global Village. We didn’t have to leave Indy’s Westside but our travels spanned the globe with our tour from Executive Director Mary Clark. The artwork represents different countries and is donated for the community to enjoy. It celebrates the international flair of Indianapolis and it’s residents.

Mary is a great ambassador for cultures and diversity. She has created a space where people can come together and learn more about each other. Hi, I am Shari Zee and I would like to tell you about one of my favorite volunteer venues, the Indiana Repertory Theater, IRT. I first volunteered in this beautiful, historic building in 1985 and have had the opportunity to enjoy many wonderful plays. That's right, when you volunteer you can watch the show for free!!

Currently, the IRT is gearing up for its 53rd season and it looks like a real showstopper! The season kicks off with Thirty-Nine Steps. Four actors play the roles of over 40 characters in this fast-paced, comedic interpretation of the classic Hitchcock movie. The next play, Marie and Rosetta is a musical about one of the most influential teams to the roots of rock and roll. Following that, the holiday classic, A Christmas Carol, takes center stage. The spring will feature Joe Turner's Come and Gone, English, and closing the season, the regional premiere of Come From Away.

Strength in Our Streets CrossFit Competition Sat. Sept 20th 6:30am-4pm at Park Tudor School

Event Support Volunteers Needed. Strength in our Streets is an annual cross fit competition to benefit the Wheeler Mission and their undertaking to support the homeless, addicted, and those struggling with issues like hunger. Teams of ten come from across Indiana and each raised over $1,500 to support this vital resource for those in need.

Strength In Our Streets is more than just a fitness competition—it’s an event with a purpose! As Wheeler Mission’s second largest fundraiser, this event directly supports men, women, and children experiencing homelessness by providing essential shelter, meals, and life-changing programs.

American Heart Association: Indianapolis Heart Walk Sat. Sept. 20th 7:30am-Noon at Victory Field

Event Support Volunteers Needed. It’s possible that heart disease and stroke will hit the road in your lifetime, but we need your help to make it happen. The American Heart Association runs on volunteer power! We could use some extra hands leading up to and on the day of the event.

Indiana Wish Fundraiser Gala Sat. Sept 20th Shifts 6-11pm at the Indianapolis Marriott North

Event Volunteers Needed. Portrait of Wishes: Bourbon, Bling & Bowties is a fantastic evening of bourbon tasting, a scrumptious meal, and silent auction to raise funds that help us grant wishes for Hoosier children with life-threatening illness. Volunteers help Indiana Wish to put smiles on children’s faces and hope in the hearts of their parents, family, and friends.

General Meeting: Wed. Sept 3rd, 6pm-8pm at the Global Village Welcome Center

This past Saturday, many of us volunteered at the Global Village's Taste the Difference. It was so much fun! The Ambassadors had an impressive turnout for this event. We got to experience the culture and magic of so many cultures through culinary delights and engaging performances. Many are already planning to volunteer next year! But, you don't need to wait until next year to begin your volunteer experience. Come join us on Wednesday, Sept 3rd for the monthly General Meeting of the Indianapolis Ambassadors' at the International Village's Global Village!

All are invited monthly General Meeting of the Indianapolis Ambassadors. The Global Village is the International Marketplace's welcoming space where all cultures gather, share, and celebrate their traditions. Thousands of community-curated objects found in the exhibit space highlight cultures from around the world, with an emphasis on those represented in Indiana. This focused effort on representation provides a sense of identity and belonging for the diverse members of the International Marketplace neighborhood.

The International Marketplace is composed of neighborhood residents, business owners, and engaged community leaders who promote economic growth in the neighborhood. The International marketplace Coalition’s efforts have already helped the Indianapolis Marketplace area become recognized as a thriving cultural, commercial, and connected destination .Come learn how volunteers can contribute to make all of this possible.

St. Joan of Arc French Market Festival - Sat Sept. 6th 12pm-11:30pm

The St. Joan of Arc FRENCH MARKET is a one-day, free-admission outdoor festival featuring authentic French dishes prepared on-site, French wine, live music all day, an artisan craft fair, a raffle, a children’s area and Mass said in French in the 100 year-old church.

Peace Learning Center: Better Way Business Breakfast Tues Sept 9th 8:15-9:45am at Gainbridge Fieldhouse

Event Volunteers Needed. In today’s world, it’s easy for conflict to spiral into “us vs. them” thinking. When we stop seeing each other’s humanity, small disagreements can grow into lasting divides. But there is a better way.

Join us at our first annual Better Way Business Breakfast to hear more stories like this, and learn how together we can replace division with connection and build safer, stronger communities. During the program, you’ll also have the opportunity to make a gift that supports Peace Learning Center’s work with youth, families, and communities.

Indianapolis Prize Gala - Sat Sep 27th Date, 4:30–8:30pm or 8pm–midnight at the Indianapolis Zoo

Stilt Walker Assistants Needed. The Indianapolis Prize honors extraordinary scientists who dedicate their lives to saving animal species from extinction. This gala is a powerful celebration of conservation and an opportunity for our community to shine a spotlight on the incredible work being done around the globe. By volunteering, you’ll play an important role in helping this unforgettable evening run smoothly.

All volunteers for the Prize Gala must be 21+ and are invited to attend a Volunteer Orientation on Monday, Sept. 15 from 6:30–7:30pm at the JW Marriott.

🌟 Feast of Lanterns – Indianapolis 🌟

The Feast of Lanterns is one of Indianapolis’s most beloved community festivals—a summer evening filled with glowing lanterns, live music, local food, family activities, and neighbors coming together under the stars. Imagine the park illuminated with hundreds of colorful lanterns, laughter and conversation filling the air, and a vibrant celebration of art, culture, and community spirit! But this magical night doesn’t happen without the support of volunteers. That’s where you come in!
 Volunteer Opportunities
We’re looking for helping hands to make the Feast of Lanterns unforgettable:

• Event Setup & Take-down – Help prepare the park and bring the lantern glow to life.
• Lantern Stations – Assist with lantern decorating and displays.
• Hospitality & Guest Support – Welcome attendees and help with information booths.
• Family Activities – Support children’s crafts and games.
• Green Team – Keep our park clean and beautiful throughout the evening.

Geist Half Marathon, 10K & 5K Sat. Sep. 14 at Geist Reservoir

The Geist Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, returns for its 17th year on Saturday, September 13, 2025! Operated by the City of Fishers in partnership with Vision Events Management, the race showcases the beauty of Geist Reservoir with stunning water views, tree covered trails, and waterfront bridges. The Geist Half Marathon race series offers a 5K (3.1 miles), 10K (6.2 miles), and a Half Marathon (21.0975km or 13.1 miles). Geist Half Marathon is locally known for its challenging course with hills around every corner, and bridges featuring some of Indiana’s most scenic views.

I have again decided to organize an American Diabetes Association fundraising team this year. Together we can make a difference in the lives of the millions of Americans suffering from this deadly disease. This year our local event is the 2025 Indiana Step Out Walk on Saturday, September 13, 2025. There will be an in-person event at Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, Indiana. As Ambassadors, we have the opportunity to make this event a success by volunteering in a wide variety of ways. I will be there volunteering, as well as participating in the walk.

If you want to join my team, you will find a link for the Grant's Group Team where you can register for the event as part of Grant's Group. If you do not want to join my team, you can start your own! There is no registration fee to participate, nor a minimum fundraising goal, so a primary purpose is to get everyone out to move. Greeting Indy Ambassadors,

I would like to take the time to let you know that the Athenaeum Foundation is starting up a new volunteer database for all the different events at the Athenaeum. We would like to get an idea about who is interested in volunteering and who is not. I know several of you were interested in the Athenaeum when the Indy Ambassadors met there in the past.

This year the Athenaeum has many events coming up in the fall and early winter. This fall, German fest 2025 will be in its 17th year serving the Indianapolis area with lots of fun. We will need lots of Volunteers for this event.

After we all recover from German fest the Athenaeum takes a small break and gets ready for Christkindlmarkt in the heart of Mass Ave. If you have not been to Christkindlmarkt it takes place in the historic Biergarten. Come celebrate the holiday with the Athenaeum. The Christkindlmarkt runs from November to December.

Each month we place our spotlight on a different organization enhancing Indy with their heart and service to the community. This month, it’s a place where people are invited to partner in learning about the joys and freedom language brings. Raising funds through a non-profit community book store, Indy Reads educates and enhances others through free classes in language learning and high school equivalency education.

This annual celebration of the performing arts transforms the Mass Ave Cultural District for 11 continuous days during the summer and features genre-defying performances of every kind. Lights! Camera! Action! Heartland Film is now presenting its 8th annual Indy Shorts International Film Festival. Named one of the 25 Coolest Film Festivals, this is a favorite volunteer venue of Indy Ambassadors. Initially the shorts programs (films less than 45 minutes long) were part of the Heartland Film festival, but the submissions and audiences kept growing - and Indy Shorts was born! This year over 5,000 films were submitted from filmmakers around the world. Staff and volunteer reviewers selected 253 shorts, which have been combined into 39 themed programs. Comedy, drama, horror, sci-fi and documentaries - something for everyone. Volunteers receive tickets to attend or stream performances, as one of the perks. Heartland has year-round events for volunteers who love the movies!

Run 317: Mass Ave 5K Thur. July 31st 5-8:30pm to benefit Girls on the Run

Course Marshals Needed. This race is one of the most anticipated events of the summer, and we can’t pull it off without you. From handing out water, supporting participants and directing them on the route, to being a part of the finish celebration, there is something for everyone.

DNR State Fair Fishin' Pond Aug 1st thru 17th shifts 9:30a-7:30p at the Indiana State Fair

Hundreds of Guides, Registration, Fishing, and Equipment Volunteers Needed. Spend a few hours helping children learn about the joy of catching fish. The DNR State Fishin’ Pond, gives children ages 5-17 the chance to fish for free during the State Fair. Each year, thousands of kids fish at the pond. For many of them, it is their first fishing experience.

Center for the Performing Arts: Volunteer Training Tues. Aug 5th, Palladium Music Hall, 6p-8p in Carmel

The Allied Solutions Center for Performing Arts will be providing new volunteer orientation. There will be a presentation followed by a tour of the Palladium.

The Allied Solutions Center is a nonprofit organization responsible for the operation and programming of a multidisciplinary performing arts campus in Carmel, Indiana. The facilities include the Payne & Mencias Palladium, a state-of-the-art 1,500-seat concert hall; the Tarkington, a 500-seat proscenium theater; and the Studio Theater, a versatile black box with a seated capacity of 200. Allied Solutions Center presents scores of events each year and provides space and support services for six resident companies: Actors Theatre of Indiana, Carmel Symphony Orchestra, Central Indiana Dance Ensemble, Civic Theatre, Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre, and Indiana Wind Symphony.

Last weekend 18 Indy Ambassadors volunteered as a group at the 15th annual IU Health Momentum Indy bike races. The event is a melding of two established races, the Indy Crit and the Mass Avenue Crit and has developed into an anticipated festival of bike races, community races, youth races, a Kid Zone and bike helmet give away. Truly something for everyone. Beginning with races in the Mass Ave area on Friday evening, the races move to downtown Indy on Saturday. Community members join in the Honor Major Taylor Race to pay tribute to an Indianapolis native and racing great and professional racers compete in races that are part of the American Criterium Cup Series. Proceeds of the race benefit the Freewheelin' Community Bike program which promotes youth bike safety.

Holy Cross Wine & Cheese Festival Sat. Jul 26 4-9pm at The Sturm Avenue Esplanade

Many Volunteers Needed. The Holy Cross Wine & Cheese Festival is a vibrant summer celebration of community, flavor, and fun in the heart of Indianapolis. IndyFringe Festival Training Sat Aug 2nd 12p and Mon Aug 4th 6p at the IF Theatre

This training is for everyone who'd like to volunteer for any shift during the 2025 IndyFringe Festival, August 14-24. Whether you're a returning volunteer or one newly checking out the IndyFringe festival and IF Theatre, we ask you to attend this orientation.

During the Festival, you can expect to see shift options that are mostly 3 to 4 hours in length. Monday through Friday, all shifts will be in the evening, and Saturday and Sunday you'll find shifts starting in the late morning and running through the day. The roles to be filled are primarily Usher/Box Office and Bartender; you'll learn more about specific responsibilities during Orientation.

All are invited. Indy Reads is a literacy nonprofit organization that offers adults classes where they can learn to improve their English learning, language, and literacy skills, as well as their high school equivalency diplomas and workforce credentials.

Hi! My name is Shari Zee and I am a long-time member of the Indy Ambassadors. I currently serve as Treasurer and one of their biggest cheerleaders.

I have volunteered most of my life and find it very rewarding to be able to be involved in my community. Through Ambassador monthly meetings I have been introduced to several places in the city where I volunteer regularly. These include the Indiana State Museum, the Indiana State Library and the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

Just one more way being a part of this organization has enriched my life.

This should be fun! Don't forget the punks to light the fireworks, because, of course, I spent a $100 on bottle rockets, m80's, snakes, roman candles, and then lady fingers, sparklers and poppers (the kids could throw them on the ground and they'd make a little pop noise.) Don't forget the first aid kit with bug spray, mercuro-chrome and band aids.

I hope I don't blow my fingers off.

The Julian Center offers emergency shelter, legal services, advocacy, crisis intervention and more for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Over the past 50 years, The Julian Center has transformed from a simple referral service into a nationally recognized agency known for providing services outside the emergency shelter. The Julian Center is the largest domestic violence shelter in Indiana, providing 1,795 survivors with services last year alone. The agency’s mission is to help victims of domestic abuse become survivors through supportive services, education, and cooperative partnerships that foster hope, promote self-sufficiency, and rebuild lives.

THE UPCOMING 4TH OF JULY celebration brings so many fun memories to mind.

And the pop and bang of fireworks and bottle rockets, the smell of exploding gun powder in the air and the squeal of children and adults playing in the water sprinkler and waterslides.....remember.

All of these came at a price for some of us.

Lying in the wet, cold grass, his steel army helmet pulls tight against his chin. Slowly peeking over the mound of grass and weed covered dirt in front of him as a shield from the rifle bullets. He could hear the sound of heavy breathing of his buddy laying motionless in the grass, not two feet away from him. They had heard enemy sniper rounds plinging the trees and dirt around them. The whiz pop noise of rifle rounds, digging up the protective mound in front of them where they lay on the frozen damp ground. Their rifles lay in front of them poised, peeking through the grass hiding place. Their eyeballs, center down the sights on the rifle.

Whether slogging through the bogs of Normandy... or the dripping jungles of South Vietnam.

Young soldiers, buzz cutt hair, trained and ready to shield his fellow GI from the danger surrounding them.

The military soldier is the backbone of our freedoms.

Vietnam War, Gulf War, the War in Afghanistan, and the Iraq War, Desert Storm, Iraqi freedom and more conflicts.

Each of these the enlisted soldier risked his life to protect yours.

Whether jumping 50ft out of quivering helicopters... diving into frigid arctic waters or crawling through the bug infested mud and jungles our military men and women made their sacrifice to protect YOUR freedom.

Freedom is not easily won and often requires sacrifice, sometimes even the ultimate sacrifice of life.

Thomas Jefferson's most famous quote is that all men have " certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness."

Enjoy your 4th of July celebrations. But remember, that some soldier has paid the ultimate price so that you can enjoy these freedoms.

Talbot Street Art Fair - Sat and Sun, June 21st and 22nd - Downtown

Group Volunteering: Warehouse Day June 21st 10am-noon at Exodus Refugee Immigration

Join the Indianapolis Ambassadors for a hands-on volunteer opportunity at the Exodus Refugee office! This critical organization needs our help organizing the donation warehouse to better serve refugee and asylum-seeking clients in our community. Tasks may include sorting donations, assembling furniture, organizing clothing, and staging items for distribution.

We’ll begin with a 30-minute presentation about Exodus Refugee and the work they do to support individuals and families from around the world as they rebuild their lives in Indiana. This is a great chance to learn more and make a tangible impact.

Taste of Indy Food Festival - Sat July 5th 9am - 11pm at White River State Park

Volunteers Needed. Indulge your senses at this year’s Taste of Indy, where an array of entertainment awaits. From morning to night, revel in the harmonious blend of local music while savoring the city’s flavorful delights. This family-friendly, festive celebration unfolds against the iconic backdrop of White River State Park, creating a perfect setting for a memorable weekend.

The Indianapolis Zoo, located in White River State Park, is a large, accredited zoo, aquarium, and botanical garden. It features 64 acres of indoor and outdoor exhibits with nearly 1,300 animals representing 230 species, alongside 47,000 plant specimens. The zoo is known for its five biomes (Oceans, Deserts, Plains, Forests, and Flights of Fancy), each designed to mimic the natural habitats of its inhabitants.

🚨 All hands on deck! 🚨

Volunteers! We have a very busy schedule this week and want everyone available to sign up for events. Coming up next weekend, we have multiple group volunteering events including the Indianapolis 5K & Monumental Mile races, the Bloombox and Talbot Street Art Festivals.

We have a unique opportunity to volunteer and raise much-needed funds for the Ambassadors. We are recruiting 56 volunteers to help keep track of scoring for the Indiana Sports Corps’ Corporate Challenge. Event activities include cornhole, total body fitness, running, obstacle courses, to yoga and Zumba. We’ll enjoy a catered lunch, corporate team sports, and a bit of tailgate party afterward with a DJ, bar, and our own IA recreational tent.

Indy Summer Cup Wed thru Sat June 25th thru 28th at the IU Natatorium

'The Nat' will welcome numerous Olympians and accomplished high school athletes to the 2025 Indy Summer Cup. This elite competition will begin on Wednesday evening with the women’s 800 freestyle and men’s 1500 freestyle events followed by three days of prelims-finals competition at 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM from Thursday – Saturday. This year's Indy Summer Cup will feature approximately 400 of the country’s most accomplished athletes.

The Local Organizing Committee is currently recruiting a talented volunteer team to support the athletes competing in this meet and our visiting coaches and fans during their time in Indy. A variety of volunteer positions are available including on-deck timers. All volunteers will receive complimentary parking and meals during their shifts plus the opportunity for fun and fellowship. There will be a virtual volunteer orientation session on Tuesday, June 24, at 7:00 PM.

Indian Market and Festival June 28th and 29th 10a-5p at the Eiteljorg Museum

Many Volunteers Needed. The annual Eiteljorg Indian Market and Festival is an Indy summer tradition and one of the most beloved cultural festivals in the Midwest. At the annual Indian Market and Festival, we host over 150 Indigenous artists from all over the US and Canada to sell their jewelry, pottery, paintings, beadwork, and more! Enjoy cultural performances including music, dance, and storytelling, and family art-making activities while eating fry bread and other food from local vendors.

Indy Ambassadors Needs You!

At the IA table, we recruited lots of new volunteers. It’s fun talking about the organization we love ❤️ . We shared our passion with others through stories and pictures. Our bubble 🫧 machine drew a lot of attention and several passersby tried to take it home with them! It was hilarious. Our Earth 🌍 themed stickers were also a hit.

We watched a bird show, got stretching massages and henna tattoos, listened to harp music and steel drummers. We all got tomato plants for our gardens. We reminisced with longtime members and showed the new members the ropes.

Earth Day 2025 flew by so quickly and I can’t wait for next year. It was powerful to have so many concerned about the environment also celebrating it. We all learned a lot and had fun doing it. I think this quote says it best….”The earth does not belong to us: we belong to the earth.”

Electronic Scorers Needed!  We are recruiting 56 volunteers to help keep track of scoring for the Indiana Sports Corp Corporate Challenge at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Event activities include everything from cornhole, total body fitness, running, obstacle courses, to yoga and Zumba. This opportunity exceeded our expectations! After enjoying a few hours of watching 130 teams of corporate office workers showoff their athletic prowess, we'll enjoy a delicious catered lunch! (Gluten-free options available.)

At the annual Indian Market and Festival, we host over 150 Indigenous artists from all over the US and Canada to sell their jewelry, pottery, paintings, beadwork, and more! Enjoy cultural performances including music, dance, and storytelling, and family art-making activities while eating fry bread and other food from local vendors.

Indy Ambassadors Needs You!

We are developing a creative team to help support organizational communication. Are you creative, enjoy writing, are great with computers or have a deep desire to be a social media influencer? If any of these apply to you, we have the perfect opportunity to help support our organization. We need help with the newsletter, maintaining our website, posting events on Facebook and Meet-Up and / or preparing slides for the monthly meetings. General Meeting: Wed. June 4th, 6pm-8pm at the Indiana War Memorial Museum

All are invited. The Indiana War Memorial was built to honor the veterans of World War I. Today, through the Indiana War Museum, it also conveys the contributions and sacrifices of Hoosier service men and women from the Revolutionary War through recent peacekeeping operations and conflicts.

The War Memorial is inspired by a neoclassical design. It is similar to the Greek architecture of the fifth century. It is a square shrine structure with a pyramidal dome, and has Ionic columns. Its formally designed open spaces and its heroic monuments and statuary all contribute to its grandeur.

The main entrance of the Indiana War Memorial Museum is on the north side of the Memorial, which opens into a large hall with Tennessee marble floors and Art Deco Egyptian themes. The museum is housed mainly on the lower level of the monument.

Speed Timers Needed!  Indianapolis Ambassadors owes it's longevity to the dues that were collected in the previous century.  Due to a changing world (thanks Internet), we no longer collect dues. How to keep the lights on has been a nagging question. Full circle back to the beginning -- the spark of life for IA comes from Indianapolis Sports!

We are recruiting 56 volunteers to act as speed timers for the Indiana Sports Corp Corporate Challenge at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  These two days are going to be some of the best our organization has ever had!  Beyond the joy of volunteering, this opportunity exceeded our expectations! After enjoying a few hours of watching 130 teams of corporate office workers showoff their athletic prowess, we'll enjoy a delicious catered lunch!

Group Volunteering: Warehouse Day June 21st 10am-noon at Exodus Refugee Immigration

Join the Indianapolis Ambassadors for a hands-on volunteer opportunity at the Exodus Refugee office! This critical organization needs our help organizing the donation warehouse to better serve refugee and asylum-seeking clients in our community. Tasks may include sorting donations, assembling furniture, organizing clothing, and staging items for distribution.

We’ll begin with a 30-minute presentation about Exodus Refugee and the work they do to support individuals and families from around the world as they rebuild their lives in Indiana. This is a great chance to learn more and make a tangible impact.

What a great social we had at Brozinni Pizza and Speedway Indoor Karting. No, you cannot eat pizza while you're driving the little race cars.

The pizza and spaghetti were tasty. Toni and Lee had the biggest breadsticks, I think i've ever seen.

Back to the car racing. The track was bumpy, fast and up and down and what a blast! Definitely bring a kidney belt because the track is a little rough and bumpy for driving.

Not being a huge pizza fan, I would definitely go back and have another piece. The chicken wings were delicious.

I almost forgot we played duckpin bowling upstairs. Karl and Alice tried to take us out, but the Felds were victorious. It was a lot of fun.

Indianapolis Ballet: Ballet in the Park Sat May 31st 8pm at the Taggard Memorial Amphitheater

Ushers, Ticket Scanners, Parking, and Table Volunteers Needed. Indianapolis Ballet and Indy Parks are joining forces to kick off summer with a FREE performance, Saturday, May 31st. Join us at the Taggart Memorial Amphitheater at Riverside Regional Park for Ballet in the Park, a free night of dance! This mixed-repertoire production is the perfect way to kick off your summer and experience ballet in an outdoor setting.

We are looking for volunteers to assist with our Ballet in the Park performance on Saturday, May 31st at the Taggart Memorial Amphitheatre! As this is IB's first performance at the Taggart, we want to be sure that we have enough volunteers to assist with ticket scanning, tabling, ushering (for general questions), and parking directions.

Zoobilation Friday, June 13th Shifts 5:30pm-Midnight at the Indianapolis Zoo

Setup, Hosts, Guides, and Water Station Volunteers Needed. Zoobilation is the largest single, day fundraising event in the state. It is truly a spectacular evening for our guests as we celebrate and advance the Zoo’s mission of protecting nature and inspiring people to care for our world. This event is made possible by the support of our volunteers and their networks.

Supporting Mental Health through the Arts

Shape occurred on Saturday, April 26th, at the Athenaeum in Indianapolis, and the event was a great success. It highlighted issues surrounding mental health and substance use disorders through the transformative power of the arts. Utilizing visual arts, music, poetry, dance, and personal testimonies, the event aimed to foster empathy, provide new perspectives, and encourage ongoing dialogue. Attendees shared that the experience was deeply impactful.

This would not have been possible without the dedication of many volunteers, including the Indy Ambassadors. Gratitude is extended to everyone who contributed to its success!

The "Nat" is the largest indoor aquatic facility in the United States with a seating capacity of 4,700 and has hosted events ranging from high school meets to national level meets such as the Olympic Trials. Over 100,000 competitive swimmers and fans frequent the IU Natatorium annually.

Originally built in 1982, the IU Natatorium recently underwent a $20 million renovation, upgrading nearly every aspect of the facility. These enhancements ensure it will remain a premier aquatic destination for years to come. Come learn about the vital role that volunteers play in events hosted by at the IU Natatorium.

Homelessness is a significant issue in Indiana. As of the latest data, there are approximately 6,285 individuals experiencing homelessness in our state. This includes families, veterans, and young adults who need our help to find stability and hope.

At Partners in Housing, we provide affordable and permanent supportive housing to individuals experiencing housing instability or chronic homelessness. We serve individuals that face a multitude of barriers, including past trauma, physical and mental disabilities, and addictions. More than 75% of our residents have experienced homelessness, with many of these people experiencing chronic homelessness. In fact, all our residents are at-risk without intervention.

We strive to take our residents' strengths and abilities and encourage them use those skills to improve their lives. Hello fellow Ambassadors,

I am so excited to be back home in Indiana, after a 4 month stay in Australia to catch up with family and friends there.

Indianapolis Ambassadors is such fun aspect of my life here, as well as gives me a sense of purpose and contribution.

In addition to volunteering, I am also looking forward to the Brozzini Pizza night Social Event on May 16 and the Volunteer Appreciation Day at the IMS on May 17. Hanging out with other Ambassadors is always a fun time.

Indianapolis Opera: 'West Side Story' May 9th-11th at The Bicentennial Pavilion at the Indianapolis Zoo

Volunteer ushers needed for the Indianapolis Opera's production of "West Side Story". This musical, which opened on Broadway in 1957, explores the rivalry between two street gangs, who come from vastly different backgrounds. You will be transported by familiar tunes such as "Somewhere', "One Hand, One Heart" and "America", just to name a few!

We need 6 to 8 ushers each night to provide our patrons with the very best customer service experience they have come to expect from us. This is also a wonderful opportunity for YOU to see (free of charge) this amazing production . There will be standing involved, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. The Bicentennial Pavilion is mostly covered, but be sure to dress according to the weather. We would prefer Black bottoms and white tops.

Group Volunteering Event: Earth Day Indiana

Please join us in volunteering at the Earth Day Festival and also celebrating our 35th Anniversary as a Festival on May 31st at our new location behind the Garfield Park Arts Center in Garfield Park. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities and times. We will be putting on many activities and hosting vendors, including live music, food trucks, children's activities, cyclist education, games, conservation and natural resources education, and arts & crafts. Here is some history on our event!

In 1970, U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson organized the first Earth Day to bring national attention to conservation issues. Twenty million people joined in peaceful demonstrations – including 10,000 grade and high schools, 2,000 colleges in approximately 1,000 communities. In 1995, Nelson was awarded the nation’s highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

By the 20th anniversary of Earth Day in 1990, interest in environmental issues had spread across the globe. In Indiana, volunteers organized a 20th anniversary Earth Day celebration in downtown Indianapolis. A short time later, they formed the nonprofit Earth Day Indiana organization to continue the event annually.

Our festival has grown to become what the national Earth Day Network has called one of the most successful annual Earth Day events in the country. The Earth Day Indiana Festival is the largest one-day environmental event in the state, and is free to all participants.

Indy Film Fest April 23rd-27th multiple shifts and downtown locations

Indy Film Fest, a 100% volunteer-driven organization, presents five days of independent movies, filmmaker meet-and-greets, and after-parties. The Fest is looking for volunteers to help patrons, filmmakers, and other guests attending the 22nd Indy Film Fest’s in-person events on April 23-27 at theaters in downtown Indianapolis.

Indy Ambassador Nikki Wenck says, "The annual festival is a great experience where you will have the opportunity to see short and feature length films from the U.S. and around the world including documentaries and narratives, and even some from local Indiana filmmakers."

500 Festival: Mini Marathon and 5K May 3rd in Downtown Indy

Voted "America's Best Half Marathon," this event brings over 20,000 participants from around the world and promises an iconic adventure you won't want to miss! The mini-marathon begins and ends in the heart of Indianapolis and includes a lap around the historic Indianapolis Speedway!

Their children had been born with disabilities like Down syndrome and autism. At that time, parents of children with disabilities were expected to institutionalize their sons and daughters or keep them hidden at home. Going to school was not even an option.

However, our founding parents knew that their children could learn and were eager to do so. They could achieve their goals, realize their dreams and contribute significantly to the world around them. Over the years, Noble, Inc. has evolved to meet the changing needs of the people we serve. Now, Noble empowers 3,700+ children & adults with disabilities and their loved ones in Central and Eastern Indiana through a variety of supports each year.

The Indianapolis Ambassadors enjoyed another unique social Wednesday. A special group of us braved the road construction 🦺 🚧 for a fun evening at Twin Peaks Castleton. After all where can you get a free tasting of whiskey and vodka in a lodge setting? But when we arrived we were told they weren’t doing the tasting due to staffing and construction. Well your fearless President quickly found management and told her our plans for the social. She quickly compromised and we enjoyed a private tasting of five new or unique concoctions. It was fun to experience the tasting together and talk about our impressions and critiques.

The real fun of the evening was the same as it always is for me at our socials. The opportunity to spend time together that we don’t have when we’re volunteering or going to meetings. I am always happy to spend time with the Ambassadors I see often, the ones I haven’t seen for a while and the new folks.

When we gather socially, we create a connection of camaraderie. Indianapolis Ambassadors is an eclectic group of incredible people. I have learned about some of the amazing things they have accomplished, places they have been and what their plans are for the future. I’m thankful to the members who come out to our socials. There is never a dull moment. Lots of laughter. Fun places. Wonderful people.

CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions is a non-profit organization in Indianapolis that provides support and assistance to seniors and their families. Formerly known as the Central Indiana Council on Aging, CICOA’s services cover various needs ranging from housing to caregiver support.

While the organization focuses on supporting aging adults, its services extend to people of all ages, including children with medical or developmental disabilities who are unable to live independently. The goal is to enhance the quality of life for children and families caring for older adults and people with disabilities in Indiana.

The CICOA Volunteer Program will connect you with people and programs that will utilize your skills and talents to make a difference to others in our community.

The Songbook Foundation Team was thrilled to host the Indianapolis Ambassadors this week at the Payne and Mencias Palladium! I was impressed by your group and the passion everyone has for serving the community.

The Songbook Foundation is all about celebrating and preserving the timeless music of the American Songbook. Founded in 2007 by GRAMMY nominated performer, Michael Feinstein, the Foundation is based at Allied Solutions Center in Carmel. Through its vast Library & Archives, interactive exhibits, and the Songbook Hall of Fame, it keeps this musical legacy alive for future generations. The Foundation serves as a source of research for scholars, musicologists, and historians. It offers educational programs like the annual high school Songbook Academy®, a weeklong summer performance intensive. The Foundation provides free monthly music resources through Perfect Harmony®, a program to help care partners engage seniors through music. As a Cultural Affiliate of the GRAMMY Museum®, the Foundation is dedicated to inspiring and educating through the music that shaped American culture. You can learn more about us at TheSongbook.org.

As a small organization, we rely on volunteers to help us do what we do! The Songbook Academy® is a fast-paced week with many moving parts and a variety of ways to help. Starting this fall, we plan to open our exhibit space before all shows at the Palladium. For this ambitious project, we will need gallery attendants and docents. We look forward to connecting with you on these and future volunteer opportunities.

500 Festival Mini-Marathon & 5K Expo May 1st and 2nd at Lucas Oil Stadium

The 500 Festival Mini-Marathon Expo is the exciting start to Mini-Marathon weekend in Indianapolis! All Indy Mini & 5K participants are required to pick up race materials at the Expo. The Expo will take place on Thursday, May 1, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm, and Friday, May 2, from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm. The Mini-Marathon Expo features interactive activities and exhibitors for all ages. The Expo is free and open to the public and a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy the excitement of the Mini-Marathon.

The Central Indiana Wilderness Club (CIWC) is a non-profit volunteer-run club organized for the purpose of providing affordable wilderness adventures. Based in central Indiana, our activities include backpacking, car camping, day hiking, bicycling, canoeing, kayaking, rafting and cross-country skiing.

Each year CIWC conducts trips ranging in length from one to ten days to destinations as diverse as southern Indiana, the Grand Canyon and the Smokey Mountains. We have day events, overnight trips for beginners and extended trips for those with lots of outdoor experience and everything in between. On a CIWC trip you will have the opportunity to explore new places, learn new skills and meet new friends. Our overnight trips are small and friendly, averaging eight people per trip, organized by a CIWC member. Our membership includes members who vary widely in age, experience and ability.

Fun, Frolic, Friendships, Food and Facts. This describes our fantastic social at the District Tap. A few years ago, I played trivia with Indianapolis Ambassadors and I was struct by their intelligence and competitive nature. The only correct answer I gave that night was…. What is the name of Paris Hilton’s dog? Well, Tinkerbell I exclaimed! I’m actually quite proud because I was the only one in the bar who knew the answer! Haha 😂.

Our gathering this time included new and seasoned members, spanning several decades of age groups. We had great camaraderie and worked together as a team named the Hot Shots. We took an early lead and remained in 1st place 🥇 as we competed against 16 teams. Answer after answer, through several rounds, I was astonished by my fellow Ambassadors. We all have different perspectives and knowledge which made the evening even more fun. Indianapolis Ambassadors are smart and fun. Late in the trivia game, a couple obscure questions knocked us down to 5th place. But nonetheless, the Hot Shots are always winners in my book.

Socializing allows us to know each other on a different level which is an important aspect of Indianapolis Ambassadors. I definitely want us to have a trivia social again. For the meantime, I’ll keep watching jeopardy to expand my knowledge base! Maybe next time we we will bring home the trophy 🏆.

Hi, my name is Shari Zee and I am the treasurer of the Indianapolis Ambassadors. I want to share with you one of the many reasons that I love being involved with the Ambassadors. We recently had the opportunity to volunteer at the gala fundraiser for Noble Inc., Noble Evening in the Garden. Held at the fairgrounds, the night before the Flower and Patio show opens, it is a beautiful evening in the gardens. Twenty-eight of us volunteered at a wonderful event featuring great food, drink, music, magicians, and psychics. It was a great time for a great cause! This is just one of many opportunities to not only support the non-profit organizations in our community, but to spend time with a great group of fun people. Hope to see you soon!

Inaugural Head for the Cure 5K Sun, Apr 5 9am at White River State Park

Join Head for the Cure Foundation for their Inaugural Head for the Cure 5K – Indianapolis as they raise funds, awareness, and hope for the Indianapolis brain tumor community! Funds raised through this event will locally benefit brain tumor research at X, Brains for the Cure, and other national brain cancer programs, education, and initiatives.

WFYI's Día del Niño at Be My Neighbor Day! Sat. April 26th at the Central Library

Volunteers are needed to support this family-friendly community event from WFYI. Needs include welcoming and checking in guests, assisting guests with writing and mailing letters, applying temporary tattoos, assisting guests with crafts, helping Daniel Tiger throughout the day, taking photos, and much more!

OneAmerica Financial Broad Ripple Art Fair Sat-Sun May 17-18 at the Indy Art Center

The OneAmerica Financial Broad Ripple Art Fair is a nationally ranked, highly selective, juried art fair that benefits the Indy Art Center and hosts 150+ local, regional, and national artists.

"As the Indy Art Center’s largest annual fundraiser, we depend on volunteers from the community, and we could not do this without you!

Rebuilding Together Indianapolis is a local nonprofit that focuses on repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives. We’ve been in the Indianapolis community since 1999, completing repairs for over 400 homeowners during that timeframe.

Once again, the Ambassadors came together to staff a pit station for the 500 Festival's 6-Miler Run. Last Saturday, fourteen of us supplied much needed refreshments and cheered on the runners. It's thrilling to see 1,500 people racing toward you as you furiously pour and hand out drinks with your fellow volunteers. It was a lot of fun for all as we reconnected with old friends and made some great new ones!

We were fortunate to be assigned Pit Station #1. That meant we were the first to be visited and the first to break down and move on to our next destination. For ten of us, that was the Lincoln Square Pancake House where we got to enjoy each other's company with some delicious brunch!

Heather Williamson of the 500 Festival said, "Thank you SO MUCH again for you and your group volunteering with us this weekend! I hope you all had a great time!"

We use the 2025 Annual Survey to find people to participate in events like this. If you haven't done so, make sure you get yours in. And keep your eyes open for fun opportunities to volunteer with the Indianapolis Ambassadors!

Changing Footprints Donations Sorting Mar 13 thru 30 on the Northside

Changing Footprint is MOVING! Sorting and bagging assistance is needed from March 11-31. We will be focused on getting our 20,000 pairs of shoes sorted & rebagged, and moved out to our storage units.

Changing Footprints realizes the great need for shoes around the world as protection from diseases and a gateway to education. Because of that need we collect new and gently used shoes for distribution to homeless, disaster-stricken, or underprivileged people locally, nationally, and internationally regardless of race, religion, gender, or ethnicity. We are a nonprofit, registered 501(c)3 organization.

We’d love for you to sign up for as many shifts as you’re available; just be sure to avoid any scheduling conflicts! And feel free to invite a friend to volunteer with you—it’s always more fun with a buddy!

Pinewood Derby Mar 26 thru Apr 6 at the Indiana State Museum

The second greatest spectacle in racing returns to the Indiana State Museum! The museum will host a two story, 125-foot Pinewood Derby Track where racers can test their derby cars on the tallest, longest, and fastest track of its kind. This track is open to the public from March 26th-April 6th with the official race taking place on April 5th and we need volunteers like you to make this event a success. We have three positions available for volunteers each day from 9:45am-5pm. These positions are broken into two shifts: one morning and one evening.

Community Action of Greater Indianapolis, Inc. (CAGI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the reduction and ultimate elimination of poverty among the clients in its service area. Currently, we serve more than 40,000 households and 100,000 residents of Boone, Hamilton, Hendricks, Marion and Tipton Counties in Indiana.

A hidden gem of Indianapolis is the historic Allison Mansion. It’s nestled on the campus of Marian University. In 1970 it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The estate was built by James Allison, one of the founders of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He invented the first automobile headlight and a fountain pen. His home is rich in beauty and heritage. Sound interesting?

Guess where the Indianapolis Ambassadors had our General Meeting Wednesday? Allison Mansion! It was a rare opportunity because it’s no longer open to the public. The history is fascinating and spans over 100 years. I am very passionate about taking us to intriguing places. There is so much to learn and experience about Indianapolis. At our General Meetings, we explore places that caught our interest but we knew very little about. Our tours and speakers have taught us so much over the years. Consider attending the next General Meeting of Indianapolis Ambassadors. One of our missions is education. Let’s be educated together about the city we love ❤️.

Technology Corner - Slack

The Indianapolis Ambassadors are using Slack for coordinating our volunteer-related activities. Slack is a messaging app from Salesforce that we use to connect volunteers. It includes instant messaging. voice and video calls, polling, and more. Slack can be accessed via your smartphone or computer.

IndyGo is looking for energetic and enthusiastic volunteer leaders to become an IndyGo Transit Neighbor or Transit Ambassador. As a Neighbor, you’ll help IndyGo build a strong relationship with the communities we serve by being a communications link to your community and IndyGo. Transit ambassadors for IndyGo teach people how to ride the bus, answer their questions and represent IndyGo at community events. In return, these volunteers get a $60 monthly stipend and a free bus pass.

Indy Ambassadors at the IU Natatorium - Indianapolis

Greetings Indy Ambassadors! Did you know that the Indiana University Natatorium - Indianapolis is recognized as one of the top aquatic venues in the country even after 43 years? This iconic facility has hosted everything from Olympic Trials and NCAA Championships through age group competitions while also being open to the community for learn-to-swim and water safety programs.

Much of the success of events at the "Nat" can be attributed to the wonderful volunteer culture in the Indianapolis community led by the Indianapolis Ambassadors. Witnessing first hand the contributions and camaraderie of the Indy Ambassadors at our events has inspired my husband and me to become members of this special organization!

We hope that you will consider joining our volunteer team at the Nat for the upcoming USA Swimming Speedo Sectionals from March 26-30. This event, one of our largest of the year, will feature close to 900 of the country's up-and-coming high school and college athletes. We would love to have you back with us in June as we host USA Swimming's National Championships from June 3-7 and the Indy Summer Cup from June 25-28.

As an Indianapolis Ambassador, we would welcome any time you can give even if it's just for one shift. All volunteers receive complimentary meals and parking during their volunteer shifts as well as a commemorative meet t-shirt and pre-event virtual orientation. We look forward to seeing you in March! General Meeting: Wed. Mar 5th 6-8pm in the Allison Mansion at Marian University

All are invited to the March General Meeting of the Indianapolis Ambassadors. James Allison, an Indianapolis entrepreneur and one of the founders of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, commissioned the mansion as part of his 64-acre Riverdale estate in the early 1900s. The exterior is a blend of early Prairie School and Lombardy Villa architecture, designed by Indianapolis architect Herbert Bass. Master landscape architect Jens Jensen, known as the “Prophet of the Prairie” for his use of native plants and Midwestern imagery, designed the grounds. Come learn how volunteers can contribute at this incredible attraction.

Nowruz: Persian New Year Celebration Sat Mar 22nd 12-4pm at the Global Village Welcome Center

Join artists Parisa Kay and Sepideh Motevasel for a celebration ushering in the Persian New Year. Enjoy talks, performances, activities, and Persian cuisine. The Global Village Welcome Center needs volunteers to help make this event a success.

Indy Reads is a literacy nonprofit organization that offers adults classes where they can learn to improve their English learning, language, and literacy skills, as well as their high school equivalency diplomas and workforce credentials.

To understand the importance of what Indy Reads does, you only need to think about what you are doing right now. You are reading. It is a process so automatic for most of us, that we rarely think about its power. People with low literacy must gather information through talking, listening, and remembering. If they misunderstand initially or forget, that information is lost to them.

Adult literacy education helps break the cycle of intergenerational poverty, opening the door for adults to navigate daily challenges, access employment, pursue higher education, make informed decisions about health and well-being, and actively engage in civic life.

Super Bowl Social Recap

February 9, 2025 marked the 59th Superbowl event in US history. Over the years, the Superbowl has become a cultural phenomenon that has transcended into one of the largest social events within the United States and each and every year it has grown in popularity in the world.

The Superbowl is not only viewed as a sporting event but also seen as a convergence of consumerism and entertainment. The commercials and the shows viewed before and during the Superbowl are just as popular as the football game itself. This event provides a perfect opportunity to gather with family, friends, and colleagues to celebrate the shared experience of watching the game, enjoying some food and engaging in conversation.

My name is Dr. Denise Durham, the Public Relations Officer serving on the Board of Directors for the Indianapolis Ambassadors and one of the co-hosts of Sunday's Superbowl party. I partnered with Titto Augustine and Chris Blair to host this event. Our event was held at the Cosmopolitan on the Canal on Michigan St. in Indianapolis. This party was a successful gathering of 23 individuals who came together to discuss and react to the football game, ate good food, and watched the pre-game and half-time game entertainment.

'Sensitive Guys' Feb 28th thru Mar 15th at IF Theatre

Front of House and Bartender Volunteers Needed. The Men’s Peer Education group at Watson College is dedicated to unpacking and exposing male privilege. These “sensitive guys” believe that through increased self-awareness they can end sexual violence on campus; but when a shocking rumor surfaces, the group is shaken to the core. Sensitive Guys features a cast of women and gender nonconforming actors, double-cast as male and female characters, who try to understand men who are trying to understand masculinity.

USA Swimming: Speedo Sectionals Mar 27th-30th at the IU Natatorium

The Indiana University Natatorium – Indianapolis is honored to be the host for USA Swimming’s 2025 Central Zone East Spring Speedo Sectionals in March.

This event will feature approximately 850 athletes from across the country racing in one of the first long-course competitions of USA Swimming’s new Quad. The Nat opens for team registration and practice on Wednesday afternoon, March 26, followed by four days of exciting long course competition, beginning on Thursday, March 27, and concluding on Sunday, March 30. Prelims begin each competition day at 8:30 AM with finals at 5:30 PM (4:30 PM on Sunday).

Volunteers are now being recruited to serve in a variety of capacities. We hope you can join our Team Indy @ the Nat volunteer team in March. Fun, food, and fellowship are guaranteed!

500 Festival: April Study Trips Mar 31 thru Apr 21 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway

The 500 Festival & Indianapolis 500 Education Program, presented by Indiana University Health, is a free program for Indiana fourth-grade classrooms that immerses students in the world of the Indianapolis 500 and 500 Festival! The Education Program equips fourth-grade educators with engaging lesson plans and classroom materials that allow students to explore the significant role of the 500 Festival and the Indianapolis 500 in Indiana’s state history and culture.

Participating fourth-grade classrooms have the opportunity to attend a Study Trip that takes place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in April! During the visit, students will put classroom lessons into action at interactive, hands-on educational stations located around the track.

Kurt Vonnegut was a World War II soldier and prisoner of war, peace activist, free speech champion, bestselling writer, artist, father, and lover of jazz, comedy, theater, and film. At the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library, we conduct tours of our museum’s diverse and accessible exhibitions. Members borrow books from our lending library. Students, teachers, veterans, and prisoners benefit from our programs that encourage storytelling to “make your soul grow.”

From its German foundation in the 1800s, our gorgeous building is one of the few remaining buildings from the period when Indiana Avenue was known nationwide for its rich jazz history and Black excellence in business and culture. Our Bokonon Lounge is more than a bar but also a space that people use for weddings, birthday parties, and more.

One of the main missions of Indianapolis Ambassadors is Education.  As volunteers, we like to learn more about the city we love.  Our general meetings have taken us places we wanted to learn more about or places we have never seen.  We learn history, get to see behind the scenes and find interesting facts.  This new knowledge gives our members new incentives to volunteer and promote venues or organizations.

Personally, one of my favorite tasks is to help find the next great place for a general meeting.  In this journey, I have met some of the most interesting and kind volunteer coordinators.  They are grateful for our members because we are interested, engaging, reliable and communicative.  I throughly enjoy getting to know them better and can’t wait for our members to meet them.  These volunteer coordinators are the heart of Indianapolis.  Their passion and love of the city keeps volunteerism thriving and beating strong.

Wednesday night we gathered at the Indianapolis Ballet with Jeffrey Marks, the Volunteer Coordinator/Development Associate.  He was such a gracious host and we learned so much from him.  Jeffrey is an asset to the arts community and his enthusiasm shines brightly.  Enjoy the interview and I hope to see you at the next general meeting.

Group Volunteering Opportunity - 500 Festival Six-Miler - Mar 8th 8:30-11am

For the third consecutive year, the 500 Festival has chosen the Indianapolis Ambassadors to host a pit station for their Miler Series of runs/walks. We need your help to make our refreshment station cheerful and efficient for the runners who pass by. We will set up tables, pour drinks of Gatorade and water, hand them to the runners and walkers as they zoom by, and then we clean up and break down the tables. Optional brunch after.

All are invited to the March General Meeting of the Indianapolis Ambassadors. James Allison, an Indianapolis entrepreneur and one of the founders of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, commissioned the mansion as part of his 64-acre Riverdale estate in the early 1900s. The exterior is a blend of early Prairie School and Lombardy Villa architecture, designed by Indianapolis architect Herbert Bass. Master landscape architect Jens Jensen, known as the “Prophet of the Prairie” for his use of native plants and Midwestern imagery, designed the grounds. Come learn how volunteers can contribute at this incredible attraction.

On March 22, 2025, Indianapolis Opera will celebrate a monumental accomplishment… 50 years of bringing opera to Indianapolis and beyond! To celebrate this occasion, we are hosting our ” 50th Anniversary Legacy Gala and Concert” and we need volunteers like you to make this event a success.

We realize that downtown parking may be prohibitive to some. Therefore, we will reimburse you for parking fees. Additionally, we will provide dinner for you, as the duties will fall around the dinner hour. As our thank you for your valuable help and support, we also invite you to watch the concert free of charge.

Indiana Artisan Spring Marketplace Mar 29th & 30th at the Indiana State Fairgrounds

Known as the state’s premier art and food experience, the Indiana Artisan Marketplace features two fun-filled days in the spring to engage with artists, see their work, watch them create, taste their foods, sample their wines, and buy the best in Hoosier craftsmanship.

The Indianapolis Public Library was founded in 1873 and has grown to include its flagship Central Library and 24 branch libraries located throughout the county. In 2021, the public library system circulated 7.1 million items and hosted more than 2,500 programs for its 282,000 cardholders.

With the launch of Indianapolis Ballet in 2018, the presence of a professional resident ballet company returned to the Circle City for the first time in over a decade. If you're seeing snowmen, it must be survey time. Each January, the board collects information from our members so we can craft a year of exciting volunteer opportunities. Your responses help to build a better service, so please complete the survey right away.

The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is a free and impartial counseling program for people with Medicare. SHIP is provided by the Administration for Community Living and the Indiana Department of Insurance. We are part of a federal network of State Health Insurance Assistance Programs located in every state.

SHIP provides free, impartial information to help consumers make decisions regarding health insurance options related to Medicare. We strive to help them be wise consumers and to get the most value for their Medicare health insurance dollars.

SHIP is staffed by a crew of volunteer counselors who have completed an intensive four-day training course and are certified by the IDOI. Regular training updates keep them current with the most recent changes in Medicare and other health care insurance options. Learn more about becoming a SHIP Volunteer. SHIP counselors are committed volunteers who offer you free and objective assistance in complete confidence.

Our Visit to Exodus Refugee Immigration

What an engaging, informative general meeting we had at the Exodus Refuge Center in Indy. We learned about the difference in funding for refugees versus asylum seekers and migrants. The center has a wonderful outreach to the refugee community that beckons all of us to volunteer.

Celebrate MLK Day at Eiteljorg with FREE admission

Visit the Eiteljorg on Monday, Jan. 20 for the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, when museum admission is FREE. This is also the final day to experience the Fifth Third Bank Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure this season. Look for the latest addition to the model railroad: the new replica of the Madam Walker Theatre. The free MLK Day celebration will include a community drum circle and art-making events.

Front of House and Bartender Volunteers Needed. When best friends Molly and Rae were 12 years old, they secretly engaged in JonBenét Ramsey roleplay fantasies at sleepovers. Twenty years later, in the wake of Molly's sudden death, her 12-year-old daughter, Hazel, knocks on Rae's door asking questions. Wildly entertaining, this play daringly presents the grey space that true crime gives women to face their worst fears.

Visit with fellow Indianapolis Ambassadors as we experience the magic of cinema and the convenience of push button service for food and drinks. This venue brings a fresh take to the local entertainment scene with luxurious, heated recliner seating, chef-inspired dining and an atmosphere infused with the city’s racing heritage.

The movie selection will be based on availability and determined one week prior to the event date. Movies are only $7 on Tuesdays.

Noble Evening in the Garden Fri, March 14th 1pm-11:30pm at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Expo Hall & West Pavilion

Once again, the Indianapolis Ambassadors have been invited to help Noble make their annual spring fundraiser a big success.

This fundraiser is “a fabulous preview gala to the Indiana Flower & Patio Show and will feature specialties from top restaurants, live music, interactive entertainment, a Silent Auction & more in the beautiful gardens at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

Noble’s mission is to “expand opportunities and enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families through individualized services.”

Fighting cancer is tough enough, but it’s even harder when you don’t have medical insurance or the resources to afford proper care. Little Red Door Cancer Agency strives to make the most of life and the least of cancer by reducing the physical, emotional, and financial burdens of cancer for the medically underserved residents of central Indiana.

Little Red Door provides clients with basic information about cancer, the importance of timely follow-up, and community resources to help meet basic needs before, during and after treatment. They offer services to help people with appearance-related side effects of cancer treatments. Cancer patients can get transportation assistance to treatment appointments. See services. When kindness becomes a habit, it improves our health.

Volunteering time and effort for a noble cause is an act of kindness. Research suggests that when we make acts of kindness a habit, our personal health benefits. When we help others, in addition to boosting happiness and psychological well-being, it favors our own physical health.

University of Maryland researchers recently examined the relationship of volunteering with cognitive behavior, social activity, and physical welfare among older adults. They found that volunteering bolsters brain functioning in older adulthood, primarily mediated by increased cognitive activity.

Participants of an intergenerational civic engagement trial spent at least 15 hours a week volunteering to tutor underprivileged kids. Older adults not only felt productive with their contributions, but also benefitted from the improved mental and physical well-being. The same trial also found that purposeful activity embedded within a social health promotion program halted dementia in general and reversed declines in brain volume in regions such as the cortex and particularly, the hippocampus, a region vulnerable to dementia, in men.

A 4-year follow-up study conducted on 12,998 participants found volunteering ≥100 hours/year (approximately 2 hours/week) was associated with reduced risk of mortality and physical functioning limitations. Volunteering also led to higher physical activity and better psychosocial outcomes such as higher positive affect, optimism and purpose in life and lower depressive symptoms, hopelessness, loneliness, and infrequent contact with friends. The growing adult population possesses a vast array of skills and experiences that can be leveraged for the greater good of society.

Volunteering and informal acts of kindness, such as helping a neighbor, have been linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. Additional research shows high schoolers engaged in volunteering activities with younger students exhibit healthier body mass index, healthier inflammatory markers, and healthier total cholesterol.

Hopelessness and despair threaten health and longevity. Prosociality contributes to better mental and physical health for us, and for the communities in which we live. Hence, prosociality should be a public health priority. Prosociality applies systemically to communal health via behaviors such as donating money to charity and/or volunteering time.

Selective and enjoyable volunteering can be useful in reducing the burden of age-related cognitive decline and neurocognitive disorders. Public health policies to increase accessibility of volunteering opportunities are an innovative way of simultaneously enhancing society and fostering a trajectory of healthy aging in the large and rapidly growing population of older adults.

Group Volunteering Opportunity - Gleaners Food Bank

Did you know that nearly a quarter of all children living in Marion County are food insecure? That's 25,000 kids!

The good news is that we can do something about it. A couple years ago, we got a group together to work a drive thru pantry at Gleaners Food Bank. It was a lot fun and a great way to help our neighbors.

All are invited to the General Meeting of the Indianapolis Ambassadors on the second Wednesday in January.

Exodus Refugee Immigration is dedicated to the protection of human rights by serving the resettlement needs of refugees and other displaced people fleeing persecution, injustice, and war by welcoming them to Indiana. Exodus has a long history of welcoming refugees and asylees from many countries, cultures, languages, faiths, and political opinions. Exodus has helped thousands of refugees establish their lives in Indiana. Come learn how volunteers help to make this all possible.

At Seeds of Caring, we imagine a future with more kindness, more empathy, and more inclusiveness. It all starts with our future generation. Our kids deserve a world that is kinder, more just, and more connected than the one we live in today. Seeds of Caring works to turn this vision into reality, offering service projects for kids—empowering them to make a real difference through service, social action, and community-building projects.

We are raising a generation of kids who are change-makers and bridge-builders. Together, we teach children about the causes of social issues, break down barriers that prevent us from living in full community with one another, and encourage our youth to use their hearts, hands, and minds for good. Together, we are creating a brighter tomorrow. Join us!

On January 20th, our 2nd annual MLK Day of Youth Service will be our only in person event. It's a day dedicated to honoring Dr. King’s legacy of service. Families and small groups with kids under 13 will volunteer to benefit local organizations PLUS create take-home art at the Madam Walker Legacy Center.

We have made so many memories in 2024 with Indianapolis Ambassadors. It’s the time of year when we reflect on our lives, goals, triumphs and those things that fell short of our expectations. This has been a great year for us. We welcomed many new members and got to know each other better. I believe it’s the personal connections that makes IA great. Doing something for good with like minded people. Making a difference in the city we love by volunteering. I am so proud to be an Indianapolis Ambassador with you. Time and time again I received feedback from organizers about how much they appreciate us. Our members are reliable, informed, passionate and friendly. We are relied on to help showcase Indianapolis to others.
Each of you has your own perspective and memories of 2024.

Take a few minutes to reflect on what you enjoyed doing concerning IA. Was it a social like the Murder Mystery dinner or Turkeyfest? Was it a General Meeting at ICAN with the dogs or touring and learning about Indiana Landmarks? Was it the dinner after at places like Condado Tacos or the Rathskeller? Was your favorite volunteering experience selling $7000 worth of popcorn at ISO or helping with the Olympic Swimming Trials? Or was it the Christmas Party where everyone won a gift?

I challenge you to think about how you will make an impact with Indianapolis Ambassadors in 2025.
