Center for Performing Arts: Prism Project Summer Camp
The Prism Project at The Center for Performing Arts is a performing arts program developed by Ball State University and designed to be physically, developmentally and cognitively appropriate for youth with disabilities. The program is a four-week camp culminating in a final performance. In 2024, this performance will take place Sunday, June 23, in the Studio Theater at the Center for the Performing Arts.
We are looking for volunteers to serve as “Buddies” during the camp. See this volunteer flyer.
Here is a short video that was shot by The Center for Performing Arts where they describe the program.
Here is another short video that was shot by Ball State University as additional information.
Here are some basic descriptions of the expectations we have for our Buddies:
You will be assigned to a performer (or performers)
We encourage you to create positive relationships with performer and their guardian(s)
You should remain in close proximity to performer throughout rehearsal in order to provide encourage, engagement, and prompting as needed
As the performers rotate through activities, you will move with them
Help to promote skill building (both artistically and socially*)!
YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DO EVERYTHING. There will be support people with you at all times to whom you can turn if you have any questions or concerns.
Our dates for this year are as follows but we hope to make this an annual event so if it is too late to be added to your ongoing opportunities for this year, perhaps we could be considered for future camps:
5/28: Orientations
Staff Meeting during the day (10:00 am to 12:00 pm)
Parent Orientation in the evening (6:30 pm to 8:30 pm)
