Volunteer for the first ever Marshall Walter “Major Taylor” Invitational Rides honoring the greatest American Cycling Sprinter of all time in Major Taylor’s hometown of Indianapolis, IN
Happening: The weekend of Friday June 17, Saturday June 18, and Sunday June 19th, 2022
Volunteers need each day. All rides start at 1 Monument Cir. Downtown Indianapolis. Friday 6/17/22 Wheels down at 5:00pm, Saturday 6/18/2022 Wheels down at 8:00am and Sunday 6/19/22 Wheels down at 8:00am
Volunteer Positions Available: Route Markers Wednesday Jun 15th and Thursday June 16th, 2022, Rider Check In, Set Up at Monument Circle, MT Velodrome, Military Park and Indiana State Museum, Tear Down, Historic Ride Ambassador, Sag attendants, Pace Riders, Sag Vehicle Drivers and Pace Leaders for Sunday 6/19/22.

This event is hosted by the Major Taylor Cycling Club of Central Indiana, a program of Bike Indianapolis. The event will be a fun-filled weekend for riders and their families. We will have a historic ride of 20 miles on Friday June 17th that features locations that memorialize Major Taylor or were significant in his life in Indianapolis. We’ll have distance rides of 31, 50, and 62 mile routes with an optional unsupported century included on the 62 mile route on Saturday June 18th and a private reception(family event) at the Indiana State Museum where the Major Taylor exhibit will be available. On Sunday June 19th, 2022, cyclists will participate in a Juneteenth ride that includes events connected to the re-dedication of the Madame Walker Theatre Center. The event will also introduce a new national organization, Major Taylor International Cycling Alliance, that will coordinate future collective activities of the Major Taylor clubs. Special guests include the founders of the original Major Taylor club. We hope to welcome one thousand riders and their families to Indianapolis for the weekend of June 17 – 19, 2022.
