Brooke’s Place

Brooke’s Place

Brooke’s Place provides peer support groups, individual therapy services, and community education to help children, teens, young adults, and their caregivers grieve and thrive after the loss of a significant person. Volunteers help create safe, supportive spaces where families can share their experiences and build coping skills alongside peers who understand loss.

Volunteer Needs

Brooke’s Place offers several ongoing volunteer roles during support group nights and community programs:

  • Support Group Facilitators: Co-lead biweekly peer grief groups for youth and adult caregivers.
  • Brooke’s Place Buddies: Assist with event setup, greeting families, serving dinner, and check-in.
  • Lending Librarians: Help families browse and check out grief-related literature from mobile carts.
  • BP-8 Outreach Facilitators: Co-lead short-term, eight-week peer grief groups at partner schools and community sites.

Volunteer Registration

To volunteer, submit an application on the Brooke’s Place Grief Support Volunteers page. A background check is required for all roles. Facilitators complete pre- and post-interviews and attend a three-session training workshop (roughly 16 hours), committing to two evenings per month for one year. Buddies and librarians complete an interview and orientation, with a six-month commitment of two evenings per month. Volunteers must generally be at least 18 years old, though individuals under 18 may serve as buddies or librarians when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
