About the Role
Summer Peace Camp is a six-week day camp grounded in social emotional learning, restorative practices, and community building for youth ages 6–18. We are seeking reliable weekly volunteers to provide hands-on support during two high-need windows of the camp day, lunch and after care. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute directly to a positive summer experience for Indianapolis youth.
What You’ll Do
Lunch Support (between 11:30–1:30 PM)
- Supervise campers during lunch and the transition to recess or relaxation time
- Support staff in maintaining a calm, safe environment
- Assist with lunch distribution as needed
After Care Support (between 4:00–6:30 PM)
- Engage directly with campers through games, activities, and conversation
- Support a safe and welcoming after care environment
- Volunteers who prefer a behind-the-scenes role can assist with cleanup and next-day prep while staff engage with campers. Just let us know your preference
Time Commitment
Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday for one or more weeks during the camp season, June 1st through July 24th. You may volunteer for one window or both. We can also accommodate varied schedules if you are unable to volunteer daily.
- Lunch only: between 11:30–1:30 PM
- After care only: between 4:00–6:30 PM
- Both windows: between 11:30–1:30 PM and between 4:00–6:30 PM
What We’re Looking For
- Reliable and punctual, our campers and staff count on you being there
- Comfortable working with children and youth in a structured setting
- Ability to take direction from camp staff
- Enthusiasm for PLC’s mission of peace, community, and social emotional learning
Requirements
- Must be 18 or older
