SUMMARY:DNR State Fair Fishin' Pond 2025
DESCRIPTION:Fishing Volunteers Needed! Have a few hours of fun helping children learn the joy of catching fish.\nThe DNR State Fishin’ Pond\, started in 2006\, gives children ages 5-17 the chance to fish for free during the State Fair. Each year\, thousands of kids fish at the pond. For many of them\, it is their first fishing experience. The program would not be such a success without the help of wonderful volunteers. \nRegistration for State Fair Fishin’ Pond shifts occurs from mid-May through mid-August. Would you like to volunteer? DNR recruits hundreds of people to help during the fair. Volunteers receive free admission to the fair\, a free T-shirt\, and the opportunity to fish with kids for a few hours at the pond. If you don’t like touching worms\, getting fishy\, or standing in the sun\, we also have other volunteer needs. The pond has four volunteer stations\, and each volunteer session is four hours. \nSee the story on WISH-TV. Please meet at the garage structure on the north side of the fishing pond.\nHundreds of volunteers are needed\nPositions include:\n\nGuides: You will show families where to register\, guide them to available fishing stations\, and help where extra hands are needed.\nRegistration: You will help parents register their kids to fish.\nFishing: You will work directly with the kids and their families around the pond. DESCRIPTION:August 14 thru 24th\nDiscover the joy\, the magic\, and the drama of the IndyFringe Theatre Festival in Indianapolis\, presented by Everwise and IF Theatre. This annual celebration of the performing arts transforms the Mass Ave Cultural District for 11 continuous days during the summer and features genre-defying performances of every kind. The IndyFringe Festival is one of the Midwest’s most vital and vibrant arts events\, and for our 20th Anniversary\, we’re showcasing performances of all kinds from dance to cabaret\, and children’s theatre to stand-up comedy with 68+ artists presenting over 250 individual performances. \nHowever\, we need your help! With more than 200 volunteer shifts to fill throughout our 11-day festival\, we literally can’t do this without you! \nEveryone is welcome\, regardless of whether or not you’ve attended an IF Theatre production or been to the IndyFringe festival before. Each country’s flag is proudly displayed along with a cultural artifact. Each object corresponds to one of those countries and displayed in a way that allows you to appreciate Latin America’s shared heritage. \nEXHIBIT Rwandan Heritage\nAug 2 — Aug 30\nDiscover the rich cultures of Rwanda in this exhibit celebrating Rwandan Heritage. View a large selection of beautifully handcrafted basketry\, folk dolls\, pottery\, and many more cultural artifacts along with artwork\, photography\, fashion\, and more.

SUMMARY:Feast of Lanterns
DESCRIPTION:The Feast of Lanterns is a free and family-friendly festival featuring hundreds of colorful and glowing paper lanterns strung from tree to tree throughout the park. The lantern lighting at dusk is a great sight to see! \nFeast of Lanterns can’t happen without volunteers! There’s a lot the goes into making the Feast possible. Whether you have an hour to hang lanterns or all day to lend a hand\, The Feast of Lanterns organizers could use your help! Tasks are simple\, the atmosphere fun\, and the work rewarding. \nVolunteers are needed on August 22\, 23\, 24. The 2025 Feast of Lanterns takes place this year on Saturday August\, 23 from 4-11pm\, however the magic doesn’t happen without dedicated volunteers! This year volunteers are needed Friday\, Saturday and Sunday to help set up\, manage and tear down the event. Neighbors are encouraged to sign up for 1-3 hours of volunteer shifts. Meals and snacks and drinks are provided throughout the each day\, so if you are volunteering over a typical meal time\, we’ve got you covered! \nAdditional Rewards:\nComplete two hours and get a free super soft Feast of Lanterns tee shirt.\nComplete a one hour shift emptying trash during the event and receive $15 vouchers for food purchases. \nPlease reach out to Martha Latta at martha@IndyFOL.org with any questions about volunteering.
