SUMMARY:GEOFEST at the Indiana State Museum  Feb 16th-18th
DESCRIPTION:It’s time once again for our annual GEOFEST event and we need your help! Whether you’re a rockhound\, a fossil enthusiast or you just love crystals and gems\, there is something exciting for everyone to discover. This annual program features three days and three floors of rock\, mineral and fossil vendors along with hands-on activities and community partner displays for visitors to enjoy. Meet GeoFest sponsor Irving Materials\, Inc.\, to do some special make-and-takes and check out a real cement truck! \nWe need volunteers to assist with the following activities each day from Friday\, February 16 through Sunday\, February 18. Shifts are either all day; 9:45 – 1:00 and 1:00 – 5 pm. \nTable Demonstrations and Activities (2 per shift)\nA table demo is an interactive activity that allows guests to complete and activity that results in the guest finishing a challenge or creating an object. Table demos last all day and are broken into AM and PM shifts. Working a table demo requires long periods of being seated and working with a high volume of guests. This year\, we will be doing:\nConstruction Zone: Work together to plan\, play\, and build structures using “construction” blocks that were inspired by Indiana’s use of limestone.\nDiggin’ in the Dirt: Become paleontologist and discover hidden fossils from Indiana’s Ice Age Past. \nWristband Checker\, (2 per shift)\nWristband checks check guest wristbands as the enter and area\, specifically the Great Hall. This ensures only paying guests access the event. These positions are needed all day\, broken into AM and PM shifts. Checking wristbands requires being cheerful but also ok with sending people back to pay if they have no wristband and having general knowledge of the event to answer questions. Chairs are available to sit or stand as needed. \nCanal Entrance Greeter: Greet guests at the canal entrance doors. Inform visitors that GeoFest requires a wristband to enter and direct guests to the Ticket Counter. \nMain Entrance Greeter: Greet guests at the main entrance to GeoFest and check for wristbands for GeoFest admission. \nSecond Floor Info Desk (1 per shift)\nThe second-floor info desk position is almost like a greeter\, but with as much knowledge about the event as possible\, as well as promotional material to give away as needed. This position is needed all day and is broken into AM and PM shifts. Working at the info desk means being extremely familiar with the event and the locations of the vendors\, having general knowledge of the ISMHS\, passing out membership info\, directing guests as needed and sitting for long periods. \nVolunteers should check in at the Volunteer Center then proceed to Level 2\, outside of School 5 where Aly will hand out info sheets and direct them to their positions. Aly will do this each day at 9:45 and 1 pm\, (Rebeccah or Hayley will take over as needed)\, so that everyone gets the necessary updates each day.\n\,\nIf you are able to help with GeoFest\, please let me know which day(s)\, shifts and activity you would like. Please reply no later than Friday\, February 2 so that Aly can ensure that the positions are all covered. \nThanks again for all you do for the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites! \nWarm regards \nCharlie 😊

SUMMARY:The Dice Player @ Indy Fringe
DESCRIPTION:Returning for ONE NIGHT ONLY after an incredible run in the 2023 IndyFringe Festival\, earning Raja El Majzoub a Broadway World Award Nomination for best solo/cabaret performance – The Dice Player is an engaging play that explores the themes of destiny and chance. The Dice Player represents the unpredictability of existence\, much like the different sides of a dice. Through his journey\, the play highlights the significant impact that chance encounters\, unexpected events\, and missed opportunities have on shaping your life. \nAt the center of the story is Joseph\, who accompanies the The Dice Player\, guiding you through a series of encounters and experiences that will challenge your beliefs about fate and free will. Together\, you will navigate a world where divine interventions\, fortunate moments\, and the whims of fortune hold sway. \nPerfect for thoughtful audience members looking for a moving and intellectually stimulating performance\, The Dice Player encourages you to contemplate the delicate balance between chance and choice\, questioning traditional ideas of control and inevitability.

SUMMARY:Bat in the Wind (or a Recent Study on Depression and Addiction) @ Indy Fringe March 1st thru 17th
DESCRIPTION:“Humanity filled “Bat in the Wind\,” which I believe has legs…It’s a performance that I will long remember for its honesty in portraying characters keenly fleshed out by homegrown Ross\, who has the potential to become one of the leading voices in the American Theatre.” \n-Tom Alvarez \nCasey Ross’s acclaimed 2023 IndyFringe work\, Bat in the Wind\, that we will be presenting in a new 90-minute version\, at the IndyFringe Indy Eleven Theatre\, this March. We’re happy to bring back our director\, Zachariah Stonerock and leading man\, Matt Kraft for this intimate\, heartwrenching tale of two neighbors suffering from two very different addictions\, who will find their similarities are far more vast than their differences. \nContent Advisory: This production includes adult language\, discussion of sexual violence and self-harm\, and depictions of drug use. It is recommended for audiences 18+
